A multimillion-pound plastic-free holiday resort could open in Cornwall creating hundreds of local jobs.
Plans for a development comprising 115 holiday lodges, a 40-bed hotel, indoor and outdoor swimming pool, leisure and spa facilities and shops near Newquay have been revealed.
The pre-application has been submitted by Business Location Services Ltd on behalf of Park Lane Financial Management Ltd for the land north east of Higher Well Farm, Rejerrah. It proposes the construction of a "new ethically inspired, environmentally sustainable, luxury 5*" resort called the Hendra Croft Holiday Village.
“The proposed development represents a significant investment in tourism and will have significant benefits for the local economy,” the planning application says. “The application site is a vacant, inland green field close to the north coast of Cornwall.
“The character of the area is lined with holiday parks. The majority of these establishments being made up of static caravans, outdated buildings and private residential dwellings and farms. The area is in need of updating with significant investment to bring them up to modern standards.”
The applicants said they want the holiday resort to work exactly like a village and want it to be 100% sustainable with a zero impact carbon footprint. The site would include a 200sqm arrival reception, a 1,300sqm boutique hotel with 40 bedrooms, a 80-cover restaurant, a leisure building, a deli and grocery store, an eco learning centre and children’s activity, maintenance office, a buggy garage, holiday lodges, a coffee house and a bike rental cabin.
“The proposal of Hendra Croft Holiday Village has been carefully considered throughout the design to create a five-star, innovative hub for lodge holidaying in Cornwall with an added sense of luxury to the general static home holiday park sector,” the design and access statement reads.
“The concept of Hendra Croft is to create a luxury, eco inspired destination for locals to holiday and use throughout the year, maintaining a business in the off-peak months and attract new tourists, create a new location on the map for visitors.” The applicants said they were planning to work with local suppliers for the 80-cover restaurant and wish to organise seasonal events for locals and visitors throughout the year.
The document continues: “Hendra Croft proposes leisure and spa facilities included for all guests staying within the village for the duration of their stay and monthly membership or drop in options for Cornish residents. The space will offer a large, spacious and air conditioned gym and sports facilities with trained staff, fitness classes and personal training sessions available. A new quiet 10m indoor heated pool for exercise and adults use, with an adjacent indoor and outdoor pool for fun sessions and children’s use. Spa treatments, hot tubs and sauna facilities will be available for all guests to unwind and relax.”
According to the developers, the scheme is meant to give something back to Cornwall and will bring a £26 million investment to the area. The pre-application added: “The new development is set to create 250 full-time jobs and 100 part-time jobs in Cornwall... Hendra Croft plans on not only supporting local communities but supporting the brilliant local food and beverage producers throughout Cornwall."
